PPR Pipe Welding Tools - Professional Plumber's Guide

PPR Pipes and Their Welding

PPR (Polypropylene Random Copolymer) pipes are the modern standard for plumbing installations in Jordan. Their thermal welding creates a joint stronger than the pipe itself.

Essential PPR Welding Tools

1. PPR Pipe Fusion Machine

  • Works by electric heating 800-1500W.
  • Welding temperature: 260°C (fixed).
  • Dies in different diameters: 20, 25, 32, 40, 50, 63 mm.
  • Temperature indicator (thermostat) to confirm readiness.

2. PPR Pipe Cutter

  • Hand cutter: for diameters up to 42 mm.
  • Large cutter: for diameters up to 63 mm.
  • Cut must be perpendicular and clean (no angle).

3. Supporting Tools

  • Marking pen for insertion depth.
  • Cleaning cloth to wipe dust before welding.
  • Small level to check slope.
  • Measuring tape.

Correct Welding Steps

  1. Cut pipe at 90° with a sharp cutter.
  2. Mark insertion depth on pipe with pen.
  3. Heat machine to 260°C (wait for green indicator).
  4. Insert pipe and fitting together on the appropriate die.
  5. Wait heating time by diameter (20mm=5sec, 25mm=7sec, 32mm=8sec).
  6. Pull both together and insert pipe into fitting steadily without rotating.
  7. Hold 10-15 seconds until plastic cools.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Overheating deforms pipe and narrows internal diameter.
  • Rotating pipe after insertion weakens the weld.
  • Not cleaning die from previous plastic residue.
  • Not waiting enough for machine to heat up.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions about this article

No, the weld cannot be undone. You must cut the welded area and use a new coupling. That's why accurate measurement before welding is very important.
