Electric Router - Usage Guide and Types
Electric Router - A Versatile Tool
The router is one of the most important power tools in a carpentry workshop. Used for decorative edges, recesses, channels, and wood joints.
Types of Routers
- Fixed-Base Router: Fixed depth, suitable for edges and repetitive work.
- Plunge Router: Depth adjustable during operation. More versatile.
- Trim Router: Lightweight for detailed work and edges.
- Router Table: Inverted router mounted in a table for precise cuts.
Types of Router Bits
- Straight Bit: For straight channels and recesses.
- Roundover Bit: For rounding wood edges.
- Chamfer Bit: For cutting edges at 45-degree angles.
- Tongue & Groove: For making strong wood joints.
- Ogee Bit: For classic decorative edges.
Usage Tips
- Start at appropriate RPM - larger bits need lower speed.
- Cut in the correct direction (counterclockwise on outer edges).
- Don't remove too much in one pass - divide depth into multiple passes.
- Secure the workpiece firmly before working.
